Eva's Room is a quiet, inviting space where breast cancer patients can go to find information about the disease. A wide variety of sources are available, including:

  1. Basic Information about breast cancer
  2. Treatment Options
  3. Hospitals & Treatment Facilities
  4. Organizations Offering Support/Counseling for patients and their families
  5. Survivors' Stories

In a comfortable, non-clinical, "sitting-room" setting, Eva's Room contains books, audio tapes, videos and pamphlets covering a wide range of information frequently sought by newly-diagnosed patients as well as those already in the process of treatment and recovery. Two computer work-stations provide additional access to the latest information available on the Internet. A staff person is available to provide assistance in locating and using these information resources.

If you are a breast cancer patient, Eva's Room will help you find answers to questions such as:

  • What do we know about the causes of breast cancer? How does it develop and spread? What factors might influence whether it can be stopped?

  • What are the treatment options? What are their success rates? How do I explore new options? How do I assess surgery options and select a surgeon?

  • What hospitals provide treatment? How do I compare them and select one? How do I deal with my doctor?

  • What support groups are available for patients and families? What types of individual and group counseling are available?

  • What are the side-effects of chemotherapy? How can I best prepare myself for them? What are the implications for fertility and pregnancy?

  • Are there special issues related to cancer-treatment that I should discuss with my insurance company? Will I need in-home care? Are there special expenses I need to be prepared to cover? Am I eligible for disability coverage?

  • Should I modify my work hours, exercise routines, or nutrition during treatment? What are the best approaches for managing the stress of fighting this disease?

  • Where do I go for bras, a prosthesis, wig or other cosmetic items that I will need during treatment and recovery?

Eva's Room was created in November 1997 in memory of Eva Georgias Karanicolas. Please call or stop by, and we will be happy to direct you to the resources you need.
